Design Seoul & Dongdaemun Design Plaza

On behalf of the International Design Alliance (IDA), the International council of Societies of Industrial Design (IcSID) designated Seoul as the World Design capital for the year of 2010. Seoul is a city where 600 years of history, dynamic culture, beautiful nature, energetic citizens and cutting-edge digital design and technology are harmoniously merged.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is dedicated to making Seoul an innovative design city with world-class art and culture. Under the vision of Seoul city, the Seoul Design Foundation has been vigorously implementing design projects, such as the construction of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the organization of the Seoul Design Fair and the World Design capital 2010 initiative.

In the center of the projects of the Foundation is the Dongdaemun Design Plaza. The Seoul Design Foundation aims to take the lead in spreading design culture as well as promoting the design industry, with its monumental multipurpose complex, the DDP. DDP was designed by the world’s renowned architect Zaha Hadid, and is intended to be the world’s design hub.

The gross floor area of DDP is 85,368m2 and it consists of  the Design History Museum, Design Exhibition Hall, convention Hall, Information Training center, Design Experience Hall, Digital Archive, Media Lab and other related facilities.
